This book was first published in 2015 and reprinted several times - I have the 2018 version and I must admit I love it - I will admit I have no skill what so ever with wood, I can hard pronounce some of the more exotic terms and I doubt I could identify any of the tools regularly referred to if I saw them in the high street - which I sincerely doubt I ever will。And that is just a tiny fraction of the charm of this book。 Even though it is a modern book, clearly written in the modern age it has an This book was first published in 2015 and reprinted several times - I have the 2018 version and I must admit I love it - I will admit I have no skill what so ever with wood, I can hard pronounce some of the more exotic terms and I doubt I could identify any of the tools regularly referred to if I saw them in the high street - which I sincerely doubt I ever will。And that is just a tiny fraction of the charm of this book。 Even though it is a modern book, clearly written in the modern age it has another world charm to it - It reminds me of the village I grew up, of my grandfather and his tool shed and the many marvels made from wood dotted around his house and land。 There is something reassuring and appealing to this modern day acknowledgement to the crafts of years gone by but rather than reminiscing on them, talking about ages gone it instead celebrates how they have a place in the world today - not only as practical renewable things but as playing a part in the renewable world around us。 I feel reading this book that not only is the hope for us but that there are better more creative and talented people out there who we can support by supporting their trade。 Books like this I think are amazing as they demonstrate that even though a craft may be decades if not centuries old there is still a place in this world for them and this book is a pure celebration of such things。 This book will not be for everyone and I am sure there are many out there that will be left cold after reading it however for me I think that this is a wonderful book that both educates and entertains 。。。more

This is a well-produced book, with broad coverage of a wide range of woodland topics, including crafts and woodland management。 Ben is clearly very passionate about living the "woodland way", and that comes through very clearly in his writing。 My slight disappointment is that the breadth of the book means that the subjects don't get a very in-depth treatment。 The book does a great job of whetting the appetite for a range of woodland topics, but you'll need to go elsewhere for detailed instructio This is a well-produced book, with broad coverage of a wide range of woodland topics, including crafts and woodland management。 Ben is clearly very passionate about living the "woodland way", and that comes through very clearly in his writing。 My slight disappointment is that the breadth of the book means that the subjects don't get a very in-depth treatment。 The book does a great job of whetting the appetite for a range of woodland topics, but you'll need to go elsewhere for detailed instruction (or, better, go on a course)。 。。。more

This book is exactly what it says it is, but somehow not what I wanted。 It didn't have enough basic explanation to be an introduction and didn't have enough detail to be a reference book。I do expect to use it once I have some hazel/willow/chestnut growing at home to play with。 And then, once I get to be hands on, perhaps my opinion will change。 This book is exactly what it says it is, but somehow not what I wanted。 It didn't have enough basic explanation to be an introduction and didn't have enough detail to be a reference book。I do expect to use it once I have some hazel/willow/chestnut growing at home to play with。 And then, once I get to be hands on, perhaps my opinion will change。 。。。more
